🧊 Active Start Program - Edmonton Ringette

Welcome to Active Start, Edmonton Ringette's foundational program designed to introduce young athletes to the joy of skating and the excitement of ringette in a fun, inclusive, and non-competitive environment.

🎯 Program Overview

Active Start is all about building confidence, coordination, and friendships - on and off the ice. Through playful group activities and mini-games, children learn the basics of skating and ringette in a safe and supportive setting.

Age Group: For players born between 2020 and 2022
Schedule:
- Session: Sept 2026 - March 2027 (approximately 20 weeks)
Cost: $225 + Ringette Alberta Membership ($94.50)
Each player will be provided with a jersey for them to keep
Participation in the January 2027 Silver Ring Jamboree

🛼 What We Focus On

Developing basic skating skills: balance, stride, stopping, turning
Introducing ringette fundamentals: sending, receiving, and carrying the ring
Encouraging social interaction: teamwork, sharing, and taking turns
Building confidence through fun challenges and positive reinforcement

We use modified ice surfaces to ensure every child feels comfortable and engaged.

🧤 Equipment Requirements

All participants must wear full ringette equipment, including:

Certified helmet with ringette cage
Neck guard
Shoulder and chest protection
Elbow pads
Protective gloves
Ringette pants or hockey pants with shin pads and socks
Girdle
Knee/shin pads
Skates
Ringette stick

Players without full equipment will not be permitted on the ice.

Hello! I'm Erin Klatt, your Active Start Coordinator. I've been involved in ringette for over 20 years as a player and coach, and I'm passionate about helping young athletes discover the magic of this sport. I'm here to support your child's journey and answer any questions you may have.

Friend Requests

We understand that participating with friends can enhance a childâ€™s experience and enjoyment. Limited friend requests are accepted for specific programs in Edmonton, as outlined below.

Eligible Programs

Friend requests will only be considered for:

Active Start
U10 - Step 1
U10 - Step 2

Requests submitted for any other programs or age groups will not be accommodated.

Request Guidelines

To ensure fairness and program balance, the following criteria must be met:

Requests must be mutual (both participants must request each other).
Only one (1) friend request per participant is permitted.
Both participants must be registered in the same program, skill level and season.

Important Notes

While we make every effort to accommodate requests, placement is not guaranteed.
Team formation is based on several factors, including:
- Skill level
- Participant age
- Registration numbers
- Overall program balance
Late or incomplete requests will not be processed.

Our primary goal is to create a positive, inclusive, and development-focused environment for all participants. Friend requests are considered where possible, while maintaining fair and balanced groupings.
